Serving the Community
Financial Support for Various Programs
In addition to the hands-on year round Soup Kitchen and International Cultural Outreach Programs, SCBCC also provides financial and material support for various programs in the community that we believe are making a difference in the lives of others.
Many church participants designate a portion of their tithe or other gifts for the support of the missions programs of the American Baptist Churches and the Baptist World Alliance. In addition, the church sponsors several major offerings in support of missions each year:
+ The World Missions Offering supports missions abroad
+ The America for Christ Offering supports missions in the USA
+ The One Great Hour of Sharing Offering provides funds for Disaster Relief and to alleviate crisis needs around the world
+ The “Thank You Offering” provides funds for retired or disabled ministers and missionaries living with inadequate resources.
Local programs are evaluated each year, and whenever possible represent concerns in which members of the congregation have an active, personal commitment. We have been and continue to be supportive of the following programs:
+ S.H.O.R.E -- a Westchester County-based housing program •+ Habitat for Humanity – a local/national housing program •+ The Ecumenical Food Bank (White Plains) – A hunger response center •+ Flemister House (NYC) – an independent living center for persons living with AIDS. •+ The Poverty Initiative (Union Theological Seminary) •+ The Sekolo Project – a private AIDS awareness and education program in Nambia. • If you see a need in our community or a program that you think TVC should support please contact the church office at scb01@aol.com Attn: Emily Smith.
